Catherine Bruton, DVM - Owner/Veterinarian

Dr. Catherine Bruton grew up in Raleigh and graduated from North Carolina State University’s Veterinary School in 1999. Dr. Bruton spent a year in Athens, Georgia at the University of Georgia completing an internship in large animal medicine and surgery. She was a large animal veterinarian in Apex, North Carolina from 2000-2002 and then switched species, practicing at Crossroads Veterinary Hospital in Raleigh from April 2002 until June 2006. Dr. Bruton started Brandywine Veterinary Hospital in June 2007. Catherine lives in Fremont with her boxer Kasey and cats Ping and Pippy. She also shares 4 horses and a Jersey steer, Hershey, with her family. In her extra time, she likes to be outside working in her yard and planting flowers. Catherine is active in her church and one of her favorite things to do each year is volunteering with Operation Christmas Child’s shoebox ministry.

Kara Bissett-Wheeler, DVM - Veterinarian

Dr. Kara Bissett-Wheeler is a native of Wilson. She graduated from Fike High School. She then went to NC State for her undergraduate studies and graduated from NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Dr. Bissett-Wheeler has been in small animal practice since 2000 and joined the staff at Brandywine in 2012. Dr. Bissett-Wheeler likes to spend her free time with her family. She also enjoys outdoor activities such as biking and paddle boarding as well as reading a good book. Her pets include two dogs Sheldon and Karli, two cats Scarlette and Pete, and two guinea pigs Anna and Clemson.

Kasey Bruton - In Memory of the Best Doctors Office Manager, Forever In Our Hearts

Kasey Bruton worked behind the scenes at Brandywine. She spent her days in the doctor’s office on a stack of beds until she was called upon to work – sometimes donating samples to help another dog heal or being a demonstration dog. She was the first to speak to anyone new during a first visit to the clinic. She lived in Fremont with her mom and loved to spend her free time riding her golf cart. Kasey worked her entire life at Brandywine and is missed dearly by the entire staff.

Wendy White, CVPM - Practice Manager

Wendy joined the Brandywine family in February 2010 and has worked in the veterinary field for over 18 years. She has experience in a wide range of positions from working the front desk all the way to assisting with surgery, but her favorite is assisting the doctors with appointments because she enjoys working closely with the animals and their owners. Wendy is currently in the process of getting her Business Administration degree at Wilson Community College. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Matt and going hiking with her dog Ayden and her dog Slick.

Teresa Cox - Clinic Operations Coordinator

Teresa grew up in Rocky Mount and joined the Brandywine family in November 2015. After graduating from Barton College with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts concentrating in photography, she decided to pursue a career where she could put her love and experience with animals to use. Teresa has learned a lot since starting at Brandywine and enjoys learning more everyday while being able to work with the animals and their family. Teresa and her husband Kyle share their home in Rocky Mount with their three fur babies, a rescue pit mix named Honey, a lab named Scout, and their cat Walker. When she’s not working, Teresa enjoys riding, driving, and showing her American Saddlebred horses and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.

Karen Downing - Client Service Representative

Karen came to Brandywine in August 2014 after moving here from Raleigh to be closer to her husband’s family. She has over 10 years’ experience in the pet care field and 30 years’ experience in customer service.
Karen and her husband John live in Nashville with a standard poodle named Marley, a boxer named Ella and 4 cats George, Jerry, Harvey and Hannah. In her spare time, Karen enjoys playing the piano, singing, and painting furniture.

Caleb Lamm - Veterinary Technician

Caleb was born and raised in Wilson, North Carolina where he began to love animals as soon as he knew what they were. Caleb loves spoiling your animals with treats because he believes they deserve it! Outside of Brandywine, Caleb is keeping up with the Lakers and the rest of the NBA. He is a graduate of James B. Hunt High School and the Nash Community College Veterinary Technician program. He has a funny personality and can make you smile without even trying. He has a dog named Zoey, and got the Golden Retriever he always dreamed of named Leo when he graduated from high school.

Molly Johnson - Veterinary Technician

Molly fell in love with the Brandywine team immediately while doing her externship from Nash Community College. She worked part time while finishing college and started full time in June 2022 after graduating from the Vet Tech program at Nash. Molly is a Wilson native and enjoys spending time with her family, fishing, and serving in her church. She has 2 dogs - a yellow lab named Buddy and a rescue mutt named Lucy as well as 2 cats - a long haired orange kitty named Aslan and a dilute calico named Smoosh.

Marissa McVey - Veterinary Assistant

Marissa joined the Brandywine family in May 2016. She is a vet assistant and kennel assistant. Marissa has always had a love for animals. In high school she was in FFA and 4-H in which she participated in many competitions such as poultry, dairy, livestock, and equine judging. Her senior year of high school she showed a turkey named June at the NC State Fair and a steer named Bean at the County Livestock Show and Sale. She is currently a student at North Carolina State University where she completed her Associate’s degree in Livestock and Poultry Management and is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science. In Marissa’s free time she enjoys visiting with family and friends, admiring nature and sunsets, and spending time with her two dogs, Daisy and Ryan, and cat, Penelope (Nellie).

Mackenzie Hosier - Veterinary Assistant

Mackenzie has been at Brandywine since 2017 working in the kennels after school and on the weekends. She recently graduated from Hunt High School and is currently attending NC State for her undergrad majoring in Animal Science. When she is not working or in school, she enjoys volunteering with local animal rescue groups and spending time with her friends.

 

Mackenzie Mosley - Veterinary Assistant

Mackenzie joined the Brandywine team in August 2021. Her favorite part of her job is taking the time to give the animals extra love and pats to make sure that their visit to Brandywine is a happy experience. Mackenzie has a bright bubbly personality that will always put a smile on your face. At home, she enjoys reading comics with her chunky dachshund, Alfie, and hopes to one day publish her own comic or cartoon series while still working to keep animals healthy and comfy!

Leia Autry - Veterinary Assistant

Leia joined the Brandywine family while in her senior year of high school as a student intern. After completing her internship, Leia began working in the kennels after school and on the weekends. She is a graduate of The University of North Carolina Wilmington. Since graduating from college, Leia is now with Brandywine full time helping with graphic design for our website and social media as well as in charge of putting together our monthly Brandywine Bulletin. Leia has a guinea pig, Gravy Brown and a cat named Maeve. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach and cheering on the Pittsburg Pirates baseball team.

Lisa Clark - Veterinary Assistant

Lisa is a Veterinary Assistant and a retired teacher, coach and Athletic Director. She is a graduate of NC Wesleyan College and East Carolina University. She also received her certificate for Veterinary Assisting from Nash Community College, where she was introduced to Brandywine. She grew up in Maryland and moved to North Carolina for college. Lisa and her husband Greg live in Rocky Mount with their three dogs Alvin, Bron, and Chase. Lisa enjoys swimming, sewing, painting, and other crafts in her free time. She is a member of Englewood United Methodist Church in Rocky Mount.
